DU-DEVELOP, a branch of the DU-MERISTEM program, launched its first of two new mentoring programs during a successful kick-off event on Thursday, October 5th. Over 20 new STEM faculty, potential mentors, and DU-DEVELOP members attended the event, which was hosted by one of DU-MERISTEM's Mentor Liaison, Dr. Michelle Knowles (Associate Professor, Dept of Chemistry and Biochemistry). Dr. Knowles gave an introduction of the new mentor program aimed at helping new (1st – 3rd year) DU faculty members in STEM disciplines adjust to their new positions at the University of Denver. A group discussion followed, with an exchange of ideas on what a good mentor is and preferred mentoring styles. The program will pair mentors with small groups of mentees to meet throughout the year as well as offer training and stipends for both mentors and mentees. If you are interested in learning more about this mentoring program, please contact Dr. Michelle Knowles at michelle.knowles@du.edu
