This January, MERISTEM hosted two events to discuss the recently released COACHE Faculty Satisfaction Survey data collected in February and March 2023, one open to the public and the other for MERISTEM members only. COACHE, which stands for Collaborative on Academic Careers in Higher Education, is a survey designed by the Harvard Graduate School of Education to identify the drivers of faculty success and implement informed changes.

The MERISTEM COACHE engagements focused on diving deeper into the COACHE results for women and women-identifying faculty in the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics (CNSM) and the Ritchie School of Engineering and Computer Sciences (RSECS).  The findings showed no areas of strength and 15 areas of concern of which tenure policies, clarity of tenure expectations, and mentoring seemed to resonate most with the MERISTEM group. These results prove that MERSITEM, a group focused on the equity of women in STEM at DU, is more necessary than ever to help improve the climate and implement policies that will support women and other historically excluded faculty in STEM at DU.
