Jonathan Velotta

Assistant Professor, Evolutionary Biology

What I do

I am an evolutionary biologist studying how animals adapt to their environment. My research blends evolution with the fields of physiology and genomics. Our projects include understanding how mice have adapted to the extreme cold and low oxygen conditions of high elevation, and how fish have made the evolutionary transition from saltwater to freshwater.

Professional Biography

I received my PhD from the University of Connecticut with Eric Schultz in 2014, after which I was an NIH postdoctoral fellow with Zac Cheviron at the University of Montana. I arrived here at DU in September 2020.
