Expanding Opportunities in Quantum Science

Quantum science is rapidly transforming fields ranging from computing and communications to advanced materials and sensing technologies. At the University of Denver, students and faculty are helping shape that future through new academic programs, research initiatives, and community engagement activities.

This year, DU approved a new Quantum Materials and Information Science minor, giving students opportunities to explore quantum information, quantum materials, and quantum computing while preparing for careers in this rapidly growing field. 

DU is also investing in quantum education and outreach. Earlier this year, the Department of Physics and Astronomy hosted its second annual DU Quantum Day, welcoming more than 40 high school students and their families to campus. Attendees participated in faculty presentations, hands-on demonstrations led by DU undergraduate students, and laboratory tours facilitated by faculty and graduate students.

The University's growing commitment to quantum science extends to research as well. The department recently received $1 million in congressional funding to support quantum research and education equipment, while faculty continue to secure new awards that advance quantum-related research. Together, these efforts are creating new opportunities for students, expanding community engagement, and strengthening DU's role in advancing quantum science and technology.
