Testing Inhibitors of α-synuclein Aggregation in SHSY 5Y and HEK293 Cells by Measuring Cell Viability

In this project, different organic molecules were to be tested for their efficiency in inhibitingɑ-synuclein aggregation, which is commonly seen as the cause of Parkinson’s Disease and other neurodegenerative disorders. The organic molecules displayed properties that are complementary to the structure of ɑ-synuclein and acted as a cap to promote further inhibition. It was tested in SHSY 5Y cells, human-derived neuronal cells, and HEK 293 cells, human embryonic kidney cells. The goal of this project is to apply the data from this research to preventing the progression of PD as well as other similar synucleinopathies.
