Use Of Computer Vision System To Determine The Severity Of Movement Disorder In Parkinson’s Disease
One of the problems with modern medicine is the ability to help control motor deficits of Parkinson Disease (PD) patients, such as tremors or dyskinesias. Modern Medicine fails to distinguish effectively between motor deficits and voluntary attempts from a PD patient to execute voluntary movements. While attempting to take a deeper look at the differences of voluntary and non-voluntary movement, this study uses computer vision to accurately track voluntary movement behavior in healthy vs Parkinsonian lab rats. This will allow to effectively track the evolution of motor symptoms in PD patients as well the effectiveness of therapies. The results thus far, shows the parameters that best guarantee an effective tracking motion system implementing OpenCV using previously recorded videos of rats executing voluntary movements.
