Message from the Chair
Welcome to the Department of Mathematics at the University of Denver!
Our mission is to excel in conducting mathematical research and educating students within a supporting intellectual community.
We are active in several areas of pure mathematics, including algebraic logic, combinatorics, ergodic theory, functional analysis, graph theory, knot theory, nonassociative algebra, noncommutative geometry, operator theory, probability, representation theory, statistical physics and topological dynamics.
A full spectrum of math courses prepares undergraduate students for graduate schools and careers in high tech industry, data science, finance, teaching and more. Besides traditional BA/BS degrees in mathematics, we offer innovative undergraduate math degrees with a concentration in artificial intelligence or finance.
Our majors benefit from small class sizes, frequent interactions with professors, even in introductory courses, and financial support for research, conference travel and math competitions. The Math Club provides rewarding extracurricular activities, including an annual camping trip to the Rocky Mountains.
Graduate students are supported by competitive teaching assistantships and endowed scholarships. Our program for teaching assistants is designed to prepare them for future jobs in academia by gradually increasing their responsibilities and independence as instructors. PhD candidates are immersed in research and exposed to cutting-edge mathematics. They attend and have opportunities to speak in weekly seminars, as well as international math conferences that we organize.
We look forward to hearing from you.
