The Department of Mathematics supports undergraduate and graduate research in many ways.
We offer financial support for students traveling to math events, with awards up to $1,500 to undergraduate students and $4,000 to graduate students (as a group) every academic year. Funding for student travel is made possible in part by the John G. Daly Endowment for Travel and Research Support and the Math Gift Fund.
Graduate students present their research during the annual Richard Ball Scholarly Lectures, with financial awards given for best presentations.

The Directed Reading at DU Math program is organized by the Department of Mathematics. It typically runs through the Winter and Spring Quarters.
The goal of the program is:
to provide opportunities and support for undergraduates interested in learning beautiful math and math-adjacent topics under the guidance of one of our graduate student mentors,
to provide our graduate students the opportunity for mentoring undergraduate projects.
